Václav Špála Gallery together with Amsterdam artistic initiative de Veemvloer will present an exhibition of contemporary Dutch art presenting artists who use different means to target the public space, or public domain, as the case may be. The public domain is another definition of public space, it is more interested in its contents, i.e. in the interaction between different, often antithetical, forces that try to take up part of this space. Many artists move around it. Some intervene in the space, others come up with projects in which participation of the general public is crucial.

The videos, video installations and photographs that will be exhibited in the Václav Špála Gallery focus on artists who could be, in the best sense of the word, marked as engaged as they are not indifferent towards the world that surrounds them. The public domain, as they understand it, is not solely physical space, it is also how the others think about the surrounding world, (self-)presentation of politicians, behavioural schemes of an anonymous mass in space that is neutral - physically as well as in terms of time (like waiting at a pedestrian crossing). Some of these areas are almost abstract or intangible like moderating of political and other discussions or personal questionnaires posted on the Internet.
